At Seattle Rubbish Removal, we believe that junk removal shouldn’t mean just tossing everything into the landfill. In fact, much of what we haul away still has value—whether through reuse, recycling, or safe disposal. That’s why we’re committed to handling your items responsibly and sustainably, right here in the Seattle area.
What Sets Us Apart
One thing that makes Seattle Rubbish Removal different from other junk removal companies is our ability to sort materials at our own facility. With our own dumpsters and hooklift trucks to move them, we have capabilities that most others don’t have. In the midst of schedule and logistical constraints that are the nature of the business, our strategy is to give our crews a variety of options to enable the best recycling/donation/disposal mix possible.
After a job, instead of going straight to a transfer station or to a single material type recycler, if a load is more varied, we have the option to bring loads back to our lot where we can sort a variety of recyclables and donations at one stop instead of driving to multiple places with that load. There might be a mix of materials as varied as donations, metal, wood, stone, yard waste, recyclables, and landfill material.
This not only can save time and fuel, but also makes it easier for our crews to divert as much as possible from the landfill.
♻️ Step 1: Donation First
Our ideal first option is to donate usable items whenever possible. That includes furniture in good condition, household goods, books, clothing, and certain electronics.
Some donation partners that we trust to give your gently used items a second life include Goodwill on Dearborn in Seattle and Deseret Industries on Aurora. These donations help support job training and employment programs for people in our community.
️ Step 2: Recycling What We Can
When items aren’t fit for donation, we turn to recycling. Here are some of the big categories that we recycle regularly.
- Metals: Scrap metal from appliances, bed frames, shelving, and more is separated out and taken to local metal recycling facilities in Seattle like The Recycling Depot, where it gets processed and reused in new products.
- Refrigerators, Freezers & AC Units: These items are recycled through certified programs that safely handle refrigerants and components. We make sure they’re disposed of according to EPA guidelines—never illegally dumped.
- Construction Debris (CDL): We take clean wood, drywall, concrete, and other job site materials to local facilities like MCS Recycling and DTG Recycle, where they’re sorted and processed for reuse.
- Electronics: Laptops, TVs, printers, and other electronics are brought to certified e-waste recycling centers like Uptekk. These facilities safely handle batteries, circuit boards, and other sensitive materials—keeping toxic components out of the landfill and recovering valuable metals and plastics.
- Yard Waste: Branches, brush, leaves, and other green debris are taken to local composting services in the Greater Seattle Area. There, organic waste is transformed into nutrient-rich compost that supports gardens, parks, and landscapes throughout the Puget Sound region—helping reduce landfill waste and return nutrients to the earth.
Step 3: Landfill as a Last Resort
Even with all of our recycling and donation efforts, there are some items that can’t be reused or repurposed. These are disposed of responsibly through local transfer stations.
Why It Matters
Our eco-conscious approach isn’t just about doing what’s right—it’s about protecting Seattle’s environment and supporting our community. Every item that avoids the landfill helps reduce pollution, conserve resources, and support meaningful local initiatives.
So when you choose Seattle Rubbish Removal, you’re not just getting rid of clutter—you’re helping us build a cleaner, more sustainable city.
